Casting Off the Works of Darkness

This is not my usual style. It's not my usual drawing style, not really my painting style either. It just started as a sketch on a notepad that I ended up deciding to leave as it was...because as I added to it, the symbolism and the contrast between darkness and light began to remind me of a Bible verse, which I included in the final product. I drew it for a friend of mine who is going through a horrible time...and there's a lot of personal symbolism between the two of us in it. In a way it reminds me of the art of Wes Freed, the artist behind all the album covers for the band Drive-By Truckers.The female figure represents my friend, the black cat represents me (and an image she wrote in a poem.).
